Promise Me You Won’t Wait for Me

Sometimes, the hardest thing to say to someone you care about is let me go. Not because you don’t love them but because you do, and you know deep down that staying would only hurt them more.
When I say, “Promise me you won’t wait for me,” it’s not just a phrase. It’s a plea. It’s asking you to stop holding on to something that’s only weighing you down. It’s asking you to choose yourself over the version of love that hurts.
I’m not what you deserve.
I’m not the good that’s meant for you.
And no matter how much you want to believe otherwise, I know I’ll never be enough to fill the spaces you’re willing to leave empty for me.
I don’t want you to wait, hoping I’ll change.
I don’t want you to stay, dreaming I’ll be different.
Because the truth is, you deserve someone who won’t make you question your worth, someone who will love you fully, without hesitation or harm.
Please, don’t wait for me.
Don’t sacrifice your future chasing a heart that can’t beat right for you. Don’t let my brokenness clip your wings. You are meant for so much more for joy that doesn’t hurt, for love that feels like home, not a battle.
You are allowed to move on.
You are allowed to stop loving me the way you do.
You are allowed to want better, and you are allowed to have it.
It’s not weakness. It’s bravery.
Let go of me. Let go of the promises I can’t keep and the dreams I can’t build with you. Let go, not because you didn’t care but because you finally cared enough about yourself.
Find the light you’ve been waiting for. And please, don’t waste it waiting for me.
You deserve a love that shows up, that stays, that heals.
And even though it hurts to say it… I’m not it.
